Where to Eat Near Castle Rock Lake WI: Waterfront Restaurants & Local Favorites
After a full day of boating, fishing, swimming or hanging out on the sandbar, eventually somebody asks the important question: Where are we eating?
Luckily, Castle Rock Lake has plenty of options. You can pull up to a waterfront restaurant, grab a burger overlooking the lake, find Mexican food and margaritas, sit down for dinner, or pick up a pizza on the way back to the cabin.
Jim and I spend plenty of time around Castle Rock Lake ourselves, so we've included a few of our personal favorites along the way, too.
🍔 Pine Cove Lakefront Resort & Bar — New Lisbon
Pine Cove Lakefront Resort & Bar is one of those places that just feels like summer at Castle Rock Lake. It's casual, right on the water, and a great stop when you aren't quite ready for lake day to be over.
What you'll find: Smashburgers, pizza, sandwiches, appetizers and classic Wisconsin bar-and-grill food.
⭐ Jim's Pick: The Pine Cove Smashburger. If Jim gets to choose where we're eating, there's a very good chance this is where we're headed. 😂
⚓ Shipwreck Bay — Mauston
Shipwreck Bay is a longtime Castle Rock favorite with waterfront dining, a big outdoor deck and the kind of casual atmosphere that works perfectly after spending the day on the lake.
What you'll find: Burgers, sandwiches, broasted chicken, fish, appetizers and plenty of Wisconsin bar-and-grill favorites.
⭐ Terra's Pick: The prime rib sandwich on Sundays. That's one I'll happily plan dinner around.
🌴 The Dirty Turtle — New Lisbon
The Dirty Turtle is probably one of the names most people associate with summer on Castle Rock Lake. It's a restaurant, bar and marina, so you can make it part of the lake day rather than leaving the lake behind for dinner.
What you'll find: Burgers, sandwiches, tacos, fish, appetizers and casual lake food, along with drinks and summer entertainment.
It's especially fun if you're looking for more of that lively lake-day atmosphere instead of a traditional sit-down dinner.
🌮 Crazy Taco Waterfront Restaurant — Friendship
Crazy Taco Waterfront Restaurant brings something different to the Castle Rock Lake food scene: Mexican food on the waterfront.
What you'll find: Tacos, Mexican favorites, appetizers and cocktails in a casual waterfront setting.
This is a good one when you've reached the point where another burger sounds fine...but tacos and a margarita sound considerably better. 😂

🔥 Buckhorn Grill & Bar — Necedah
Buckhorn Grill and Bar is a great stop if you're spending the day around the Buckhorn side of Castle Rock Lake or visiting Buckhorn State Park.
What you'll find: Smoked meats, brisket, pulled pork, burgers, sandwiches, tacos and Wisconsin favorites.
It's a nice change of pace from the traditional lake-bar menu, especially when BBQ sounds better than fish and burgers.
🍕 Buckhorn Store — Necedah
Don't overlook Buckhorn Store just because it isn't a traditional restaurant.
What you'll find: Pizza, hot subs, appetizers and quick food, plus all those lake-day necessities you suddenly realize you forgot.
⭐ Terra's Other Pick: Buckhorn Store pizza. Sometimes after being on the lake all day, I don't need fancy. Give me a good pizza and I'm happy.
🥩 Rustic Ridge Restaurant & Bar — Friendship
Rustic Ridge Restaurant & Bar gives you another option on the Friendship side of the lake and works especially well when you're looking for more of a sit-down meal.
What you'll find: Steaks, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, seafood, fish fry and other American favorites.
With outdoor seating, boat docks and a nearby swimming beach, it still fits nicely into a Castle Rock Lake day.
🍝 Portofino Bay Restaurant — Mauston
Portofino Bay Restaurant is a seasonal waterfront option for those looking for something a little different from traditional lake-bar food.
What you'll find: Italian and American dishes, fish fry, drinks and seasonal favorites.
The waterfront setting and outdoor dining make it another good choice when you want dinner without completely abandoning the lake for the evening.

If your perfect lake day involves parking the boat and walking straight into dinner, start with the waterfront options like Pine Cove, Shipwreck Bay, The Dirty Turtle, Crazy Taco, Rustic Ridge and Portofino Bay.
Just remember that hours, menus and boat access can change seasonally, so it's always worth checking with the restaurant before making it part of your day's boating plans.
